SAD44 Superintendent Update

Good afternoon. This is Dave Murphy, MSAD 44 Superintendent of Schools and today is Monday, September 26, 2022.

It is hard to believe that the first month of the school year is quickly coming to an end. We have enjoyed a terrific opening throughout the district and look forward to a great year ahead! I would like to take this opportunity to share a few items with you.

~ The district has COVID test kits that are available to any MSAD 44 families who would like to have them. These kits may be picked up in person in your school office or sent home with your child if you request that option. Please note that the distribution of these will be limited to one kit of five tests per enrolled student.

~ As you may be aware by now, I will be retiring at the end of this school after 39 years in the district as an administrator with 21 one of those being as your superintendent. The district is currently in the process of seeking my replacement. If you have not already done so, please consider completing the community survey that the Superintendent Search Committee has posted. The survey is scheduled to close tomorrow. Your input would be appreciated.

~ Telstar High School will begin its 10-year Accreditation renewal process next month with a visit from a team from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. A great deal of preparation and work has already gone into preparing for this visit. Stay tuned for updates from the high school as this effort moves forward.

~ On Wednesday of last week, Ted McInerney from Channel 8 broadcasted live from the Crescent Park School with third grade students who helped to deliver the morning's weather report. After the broadcast, he visited the classroom for a 45-minute lesson and presentation, which tied directly into their weather unit. Students learned about different types of weather and their impact on our life in Maine. I believe the CPS visit was the first school visit of the year by Channel 8. Many thanks to all of our early risers!

In closing, I would urge you to consider becoming actively involved in your child's school as a PTA member and/or volunteer. The number of opportunities to connect with our schools has increased significantly as we have returned to a more normal school experience. Your involvement in the schools would be greatly appreciated.
