Dr. David Murphy

Good Afternoon,

I am especially pleased to be able to provide this update for the first Friday in June. At the beginning of this school year, many people would have doubted that we would have been able to make it through to the end of the year and still be offering in-school opportunities for all of our students at this point in time. As I have said in these messages many times throughout the course of this past school year, our success has been largely due to the great work of our staff and the solid, ongoing and fantastic support that we have received from our parents and from the community as a whole!

The coming week will be a very busy one. I hope you will take the time to head to the polls on election day next Tuesday, June 8 and to consider supporting the School Board’s proposed FY 22 MSAD 44 budget while you are there. In addition to the flyer that was mailed out to all households, there is also more specific information that can be viewed on our website, including all of the information that was presented to the community at last week’s Public Budget Hearing.

You will see that there are also two additional questions on the ballot that ask your support in allowing the district to use any unexpended funds from this year’s budget that may be available at the end of the year to help pay down the debt of our food service program and to put some funds aside into the district’s Capital Reserve account. The funds in that latter account would only be able to be used at a later date with voter approval for specific capital improvement projects in the district.

Next week marks graduation week for the Class of 2021. They have done an incredible job of navigating the many challenges that the pandemic has presented them with and throughout the year, they have proven their resiliency and ability to adjust over and over again! We are all proud of their many efforts and hope that you will join us in recognizing them for their many achievements. A list of next week’s activities can be found on the district website. That information is also on the front page of this week’s Bethel Citizen.

Best wishes for terrific June weekend!
