This is Dave Murphy, MSAD 44 Superintendent of Schools and this is Thursday, September 2, 2021. I am contacting you today via our new alert system to let you know that we have confirmed our first positive COVID test of the school year. It was an individual at Telstar High School. After identifying close contacts with the assistance of Rosemary Wiser, the district nurse, Mr. Kenney has notified me that there were 27 additional people identified. 15 of these people were not vaccinated and have been sent home where they will be required to quarantine, as will the individual who tested positive. 12 of the identified close contacts have received the vaccine and as a result, will not be required to quarantine. If you have not already done so, we strongly recommend that all eligible students receive the vaccination. Doing so will increase the likelihood that they will be able to enjoy fewer interruptions this year.
I also would again state the strong recommendation that all students mask while in school. This is yet another layer of protection that can help us in the fight against this virus.
Dave Murphy, Ed.D.
