If you want to work and are not yet 16 years of age, the State of Maine requires you to get a work permit.
How to Get a Work Permit:
- You need an employer to offer you a job first.
- To apply for the permit, go to Telstar High School office with your birth certificate, social security card and a parent or guardian. The parent or guardian must sign the permit.
- Bring the completed work permit to your place of employment.
Things to Remember:
- You cannot apply for a work permit, in the State of Maine, without being offered a job.
- A new permit is required every time you begin a new job until you become 16 years old.
For more information regarding work permits, or questions regarding them, visit the State of Maine's webpage called A Guide for Working Teens.
