Learning Results were established in 1997 by the Maine legislature to define the knowledge, skills, and abilities each Maine student is expected to possess at the end of a grade span: Pre-K-2; 3-4; 5-8; 9-diploma. The learning results are currently undergoing a mandated 10-year revision.
The School Board through its Vision document and the district faculty curriculum committees have worked dilligently to develop curricula that not only meet the Maine standards, but that also provide a frameworks for what all students in MSAD #44 will know and be able to do.
The curriculum and assessment documets are divided into three sections:
Section I: Detailed Curricula for Content Area
Each content area has a detailed curriculum with student outcomes based on both national and Maine standards. The documents were developed by local curriculum committees under a variety of teacher leaders and content specialists. For a grade by grade curriculum maps, which summarize the curricula and provide links to assessments, activities, and resources see Section II: Curriculum Maps.
Section II: Curriculum Maps
For teachers and parents, the curriculum maps provide a concise overview of the content, standards, activities, assessments, vocabulary, and resources at each grade level. For details see the complete curricula in Section I.
Section III: Local Assessment
Local Assessment of the Maine Learning Results includes: Maine Educational Assessment (MEA) in Grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 as well as the SAT in Grade 11. We also have District common assessments such as writing prompts, math prompts, performance assessments, portfolio and tests.
